- 2 cups (250g) cookie dough (or make your own using flour, baking powder, etc.)
For the Icing:
- Green, white, and orange icing (you can make your own using powdered sugar and food coloring)
How to Make It:
Step 1: Prepare the Cookie Dough
-
Make or Use Cookie Dough: If using store-bought cookie dough, skip to the next step. Otherwise, mix together flour, sugar, and other dry ingredients with butter and egg to form a dough.
-
Chill the Dough: Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
Step 2: Bake the Cookies
-
Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C).
-
Roll Out Dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.
-
Cut Rectangles: Use a knife or a cookie cutter to cut out rectangles approximately 2 inches by 3 inches (5 cm by 7.5 cm).
-
Bake: Place the rectangles on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving about 2 inches of space between each cookie. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until lightly golden.
-
Cool: Let the cookies cool completely on a wire rack.
Step 3: Make the Icing
-
Prepare Icing Colors: Mix powdered sugar with a small amount of water to create a thick but spreadable icing. Divide the icing into three portions.
-
Color the Icing: Add green food coloring to one portion, orange to another, and leave the third portion white.
-
Mix Well: Ensure each color is evenly mixed.
Step 4: Decorate the Cookies
-
Frost the Cookies: Using the colored icings, frost each cookie with a green stripe on the left, a white stripe in the middle, and an orange stripe on the right. Each stripe should be about 1 inch wide.
-
Serve: Once the icing is set, your Irish Flag Cookies are ready to be enjoyed.
Pro Tips:
- You can adjust the size of the cookies based on your preference.
- If you prefer a crisper cookie, bake for an additional minute or two.
- For a more vibrant color, use gel or paste food coloring instead of liquid.
